More sickness than health in this family!

So when I married Anthony we both vowed, "In sickness and in health." Well this year it has been more sickness than health. With me going back to work so quickly after Olivia was born and putting Olivia in daycare; she has been non stop sick. First Olivia had RSV, then ear infections after ear infections, a cold here, a cold there, and who knows what else! Oh yeah, pneumonia too. And that was just 2010......
Grace started kindergarten this year and has hardly been sick, which is such a blessing. She has had a few sicknesses here and there, but nothing like poor Olivia.
Then there is me and Anthony. We did decently well for 2010...except poor Anthony got so sick on his first day of work that he came home and just passed out.
Thankfully, this pregnancy I have not been as sick as I was with the girls (with the girls I was really nauseous).
I was really excited to start 2011 because I thought that it would be a nice healthy year.....boy was I wrong!  The past few months have been such a blur that I can't remember who was sick when and who passed it to who. My dad said this was a bad flue season and boy do I ever believe it! Olivia and Grace got super sick the first week of January - just in time for my sister to visit along with their cousins Lila and Will. We did not get to spend much time with them, we were all home sick. :( After that the sickness became a lovely cycle....after the girls were sick, I got sick....then Anthony.....then Olivia.....then me again.......then Olivia.....then Anthony.....then me......and then Grace again. Oh yeah and somewhere in there I got food poisoning. With two trips to the ER (once for Grace and once for Olivia) and one trip to labor and delivery (I'm fine)......2011 has been an expensive year! I keep reminding myself, "God will provide," and I keep praying, "God get all sickness out of our house."
Today I was finishing up at work and I get a message from my hubby saying, "I hate to bother you at work but I went to get Olivia at daycare and she threw up all day long." So I wrapped up as much as I could and head home to help him with my sick little baby. So thankfully Olivia is sick now and hopefully when she starts kindergarten in a few years she will be the healthiest kid in the bunch!
I think all families have been through these seasons in life where everyone seems sick all the time and they just pass it back and forth. I guess when you have a family you really do share everything!
So with all this sickness, I am working hard on thanking God for keeping us all healthy. We may get minor colds here and there but not of us are seriously or chronically ill and that is such a blessing. And even though Anthony and I have experienced more sickness than health, I know this is just growing us closer together and closer to God. I guess it is through the hard times we truly learn to grow closer together and closer to God.
So now my prayer is...that all this sickness will run its course before little Luke is born! Only time will tell!
Lots of love,
RN Mommy (AKA Melanie) and Dr. Daddy (AKA Anthony)

Love, Laughter & Decor: European Toile and Lavender Nursery

I LOVE this nursery - I wish I could have my kids room look like this! Check it out!
Love, Laughter & Decor: European Toile and Lavender Nursery: "Welcome to my little girl's lavender abode. The completion of this nursery took me months, but after viewing numerous designer rooms..."

Trusting God

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14

I love that God hears our prayers and loves us no matter what.

I love how my girls get along and love each other! Pretty soon Grace and Olivia will be sharing a room to make room for baby Luke. I wonder if they will still enjoy each other's company when they are sharing a room? Any advice for bunking two kiddos?

Smiley Face Cookies!

Today was a long day at work with a good ending. (As I write this I am cuddling on the couch with my hubby).
I work with kids in community mental health and rarely do I see a happy ending. Because I am getting ready to go on maternity leave, I am trying to close out as many cases that I can and transfer the rest. Today I closed a case and it had a happy ending.  I have been working with a brother (5 years old) and a sister (6 years old) for almost 9 months now. I was called on the case to teach the kids positive touch. Both children were sexually abused for years and receiving therapy through Child Help. Besides being sexually abused, the kids were both diagnosed with ADHD, PTSD and RAD. They also were placed in multiple foster homes until being adopted roughly 2 years ago. When I first started working with the kids, they struggled to even give each other hugs because all touch was negative. Today we were able to review good touch and bad touch. The sister was even able to talk about asking permission to touch someone before you actually touch them! It was really exciting for me to hear! Her brother still struggles to hear praise, but now he is able to receive praise without hiding in shame. I told him how proud I was of him today and he continued to look at me in my eyes, rather than put his head down. The kids graduated from therapy last month and now they are closing out with my services. It is nice to see kids  succeed when no one thought they would be able to succeed. I brought them each a cookie with a smiley face on it showing them that when I thought of them, it made me smile. Brother ate it all up and sister took slow bites. It was fun spending this last visit with them celebrating their accomplishments. The kids still have a long way to go and will still have struggles.....but I know that they have made progress and it is a good reminder that there still is hope!
I get so burnt out by my job and these are great reminders that  God has a plan for each of our lives no matter where we have been or what we have been through!

Welcome to the Cantelmo Family Blog!

This is my first blog and I hope this is a way to keep my extended family and friends updated on my daily life.  I also desire to connect with other mom's, women and whoever else happens to stumble on my blog.
So you may be wondering why the cheesy name, "Keeping up with the Cantelmo's." First off, my guilty pleasure is watching Keeping up with the Kardashian's on TV. Normally I hate those types of shows.....but some how I got hooked. I am a bit embarrassed to admit, the name is a play off of one of my guilty pleasures. The other reason for the name is our life is so busy, I can barely keep up!
So here is a run down on our life this past year: I had Olivia in January 2010, got married to Anthony and started a new job (working four ten hour days in community mental health) in May of 2010. I found out I was pregnant in July and Grace started Kindergarten in August! There has been many ups and downs....but that is just a quick run down of how hectic my life has been!
Besides relying on God to get me through each day, sometimes I indulge in some guilty watching silly TV shows and eating ice cream.
What are some ways that you get through busy stressful days? Thanks for checking out my blog!
Much love,
